Okay, this is meant for those new people here on ACF, or those who may be confused as to how to get your Signature and Avatars up and showing. Well there are several things that you should know first before I get to the instructions.

************************************************** *******

Avatar and Signature Sizes:

Signatures:
Banner Type Signature: 600 px long by 125 px tall

http://tinypic.com/288ltl

Box Type: 250 px long by 175 px high.

http://tinypic.com/288lxj

Please use these suggested sizes as they are appropriate for bandwidth usage. However, anything TOO BIG will be deleted.

Avatars:
110 by 110 only please!

How to upload avatars from your computer

1) firstly, make sure the image you want is on your computer, and make sure its file type and size to make sure it'll upload properly.

2) go into your profile, to the very bottom. Here you will find the avatar control panel:

http://tinypic.com/288ppw

To upload your avatar, click the 'browse' button, then find your image and open it. Then, click the submit button and your avatar will be uploaded!

Can I Hotlink My Images From The ACF Gallery or From My Personal Gallery Which is Hosted by ACF?

!!!THE ANSWER TO THIS IS NO!!! Since we are getting new members everyday, and we have constant traffic in and out, we would like to keep our bandwidth for everyone to be able to access ACF and to post freely. However, if everyone is using ACF to post their images for their signatures or Avatars, it uses up that bandwidth quicker than normal.

So, that is why we ask that ALL members who wish to have their Signatures and Avatars viewed, to please use an Image Hosting Site that allows for Hotlinking like:

PhotoBucket (http://www.photobucket.com/)
ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us/)

I'm sure that there are other sites out there that allow hotlinking and those ones may suit your needs. These two sites above are free to use for your image hotlinking needs (and, they're the only one's that I know of that work best).

Why Won't My Sig and Avy Show up When I Post?

Now, when you signed up for ACF, you may have already gotten your signature and banner already plugged in and ready to go. However, when you posted, they didn't show up. The reason for this is because, awhile back, there was a bit of trouble with ACF and before anyone new it, everyone had to buy the priveleges of using a signature and avatar. We don't know why this is, it just happens to be that way. So, what you want to do is go to the: Effects Store (http://www.animechatforums.com/forum/shop_effects.php?action=specialshop).

http://tinypic.com/288p01

Each privelege costs 1 gil (thankfully it isn't outrageous), so, if you haven't posted yet, but you want your signature and avatar to show up, it is suggested that you make at least a new post in the New Members Introduction forum or Reply to any other thread (Note, in Spam-o-rama, posts DO NOT count towards your total and I don't remember correctly if you get gil or not, but it is best to avoid it until AFTER you have some gil to buy priveleges).

Why Isn't My Avatar Showing Up? Why Do I Keep Getting Error Messages When I Upload My Avy Image?
Well! This could be for a few reasons:

1.) If you keep getting the "Avatar Image is Too Large!" Error, then please, make sure that it is a 110 x 110 avatar. You can't upload anything bigger than that.

2.) If you're getting the "Image must be .jpg, .png, or .gif" Error, then please, check to make sure that your image is in one of those three formats!

3.) If you're getting a different kind of Error message, then I don't know what the heck is going on. Those rarely ever happen. So, what you want to do is post your image to an Image Hosting Site first. Second, go into your profile and then go to the bottom where the Avatar settings are. In the "Link to OFFSITE avatar" space, type in the link to your avatar and see if it works then. With this option, you DO NOT need the IMG tags at all...just the link to where the image is.

If your image STILL IS NOT SHOWING UP, then make sure that you have purchased the priveleges from the Effects Store. There is a link above that will get you there.

How Do I Use an Image as My Signature?

http://tinypic.com/288q3r

By using the IMG tags. Insert into the signature typing area. Then all you have to do is put the link to your image right between those tags. Remember, do not use spaces between the tags and the link to the image (the image won't show up and you'll get angry trying to figure it out...this note is to prevent that anger).

Example:
Right:
insert%20link%20here <--Normally, there won't be any spaces in a link, this is just to express a point.

Wrong:
1.) insert%20link%20here <--notice space before link to image and after. This is wrong!
2.) <--Some other forums use this type of link code to insert an image. However, here on ACF, this would be wrong as well. Please, use the Right example to post your image for a signature.

************************************************** *******

Now, if you're new here and didn't know how to do any of this, I'm sure that this will be a great help. If you're new here and already knew most of this, then you're off to a great start.

I'm also fairly sure that some of you noticed that You can use your signature image as a link as well. It's basically using the URL Tags before the IMG tags but with the URL Tags, it should look like this (<--This usually comes before the opening IMG tag. Remember that) (insert link here). Make sure that the [/URL] tag comes after your [/IMG] tag, or else the link won't work, your image will show up, but you'll have words in front of and behind your signature image. Remember as well, NO SPACES BETWEEN THE TAGS! Or else you'll have the same problems, but instead of no image and no link, you'll have words.

If you're not a signature or avatar designer and would like one of your own, but don't know how to go about getting any, then please, check out the Creativity Center! Make your requests there as well. Any member of ACF who is offering will usually post a topic stating so, or you can go into one of the many requesting topics and post a reply for your own request there! We have many talented designers here on ACF and we really like to show off what we got!

As for me...please, don't make a request for me to do one for you. 1.) I'm not THAT good at it yet because I'm still starting out. 2.) I'm not in tune with what you may want unless you either flat out TELL ME or give me every ounce of material you want used. I am basically only in tune with what I think would look nice for me (selfish huh?) and cannot guarantee the same for everyone else. I do resizes and artifact cleanings on sig's and avy's for those who ask me to do so, but that's about it.

Also to mention...NO HENTAI LINKS OR IMAGES!! Those are banning offenses and you wouldn't want to be banned for that!!

This is the end of this Signature and Avatar Tutorial.

Under no circumstances can any members post offensive images. This includes hentai as well as racial and political avatars and sigs. If you are caught with these avatars and signatures you will be banned.

also, I edited some pictures in

These help too:

Image Uploader (http://img.myfxh.com/) - Can upload larger files.

Tinypic (http://tinypic.com) - Quick and simple. For images under 200 kb only.

Villagephotos (http://www.villagephotos.com) - Good for all sorts of signature images.

Image Uploader allows you to host an image up to 2mb, the catch is you got to register, but it is easy.

what is a host site?

A host site is a website that allows you to host an image[ex: sig or avatar]. These sites allow you to hotlink your images to another site without using that site's bandwidth up.

Photobucket and Imageshack are probably the best ones to use.

www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) It's all good for any large images. If it's over a certain size it resizes it automatically though...

Actually, they leave it pretty much optional really. You can always just get rid of that URL part to their site if you want to. I know, I've done it several times and have had no problems. Besides, it is only a hidden link within the image. They don't tag your image with any of their logo's so that it makes it look bad like some of the others that I've used have before. If you don't like using the hidden link, then just get rid of it, otherwise, it's not really a big problem

I've taken my whole internet time up with putting some images in it. This way hopefully, the dumber people will be able to recognize the screenshots so they'll know they're on the right page.

(btw about the white lines in front of the images - blame tinypic not me)
