As we all know, anime and manga most of the times differ. When a manga becomes very popular they start an anime of it, even if the manga is still ongoing D:
For example Ouran Host Club, the anime has 26 episodes, and the manga is still ongoing with a lot of interesting things happening on it.
But there are also animes that doesnt change the plot of the manga (maybe some little changes and extra chapters) for example Death Note (almost the same) or Yu Yu Hakusho (some slight changes)...

So what do you prefere...
Having a shorter anime with and alternative ending or and anime that follows the original plot of the manga?

I would want them to be the same!

The anime should mirror the manga.

And the manga should mirror the anime.

You might end up with two different versions, though. Which would be fine, as far as I'm concerned.

But manga is one media form, anime another. The presentation vehicles are so different that I doubt if it would be really practical to have the anime mimic the manga.

I'd want them to follow the same story as the manga for the most part, very few anime that didn't have a tendency to be so bad it's obvious they made it up at the last minute. But I wouldn't want it to be exactly the same, that would be far too boring. And in fact there are some anime portrayls I prefer over the manga or will even combine with the manga ending.

My main gripe with anime that differ from the manga tends to be the portrayl of characters themselves displaying them as vastly inferior then thier manga incarnations or completely throws the plot out the window compared to it's counterpart. Most obvious example bieng A Certain Scientific Railgun in which the anime version all but removes the main character from the story of all things, and let's not go into the rival characters not even appearing.:sta:

On the other hand I especially hate this current trend of OAVs bieng made because the animators realized they changed/removed a part of the story who's absence made it impossible to continue if they wanted to make a sequal, and therefore ignoring entire seasons as a result.

add option: a little of both.

at big scale, same story, differently told. Adding characters, wisely, can add a plus.

they need to see their mistakes and learn from them. There is no point on making mistakes and not correcting them.
