hello all! i've been recently thinking about the differences between classic and modern anime and i have to wonder people's preference.
up until the early new millenium, anime was considered a plane for 2d art. it has helped to open the gateway for many people to consider 2d animation to be more than just 'cartoons'. lately ive noticed that many studios are blending 2d animation with 3d, most of the coloring and effects probably generated more by a computer than by hand.
i'm just wondering what member's prefer. lately i've been very into the old, 2d style.
examples of each (which i'll separate into 'modern and classic')
modern:

I have to say that the older draws me in more, simply because that is what I started out with. Plus sometimes newer anime isn't animated or dubbed well and it takes away from the story line. Even if older anime isn't animated great, its simply because its old not cheaply made. ^_^

I honestly can't decide between old or new anime. I find that I can appreciate both of them.
The classic anime has an "old style" to it and has certain characteristics in its animation about it that makes each classic anime different from each other. Sometimes one classic anime will have better coloring capable of setting up the mood of the anime and another might have better animated quality. I can honestly say that classic anime really stand out amongst each other and its hard not to admire the hard work that goes into producing it. However, because its made by hand, it general takes longer to make.
Modern anime tends to be more visually appealing and bright in color. However, this colorization tends to give a "same" feeling throughout most modern anime produced. But, while modern anime can produce a kind of "monotone" feel amongst each other due to great amounts of similarities in the animation, it generally takes less time to make modern anime thus making more releases possible.
However, I feel what makes a good anime is an engaging story line, an interesting world or setting, and of course characters that can really absorb the viewer into their story to where the characters captivate and project emotions, knowledge, and themes into the viewers. Music and animation both really add to these qualities, but regardless if anime has classic or modern animation, I find that both classic and modern anime are capable of containing each of these qualities. So, for me: classic or modern - I pick both! =D

well taking this into consideration, i think all anime has a potential to be good. i'm not saying like....watching old just because it's so much better than new, but, the art style is something that i definitely am drawn to in the classic anime. so, i vote old.

^^; Spoken like a true artist Grace... I have no clue about any of that stuff simply because I don't know the process of making anime or any kind of art really... Doesn't change my opinion though I still prefer older anime. ^_^

I understood what you were saying Montreal. I was just expressing my hard choice between the two by saying the negatives and positives of both. ^_^ It is honestly hard for me to choose... XO
That's understandable Shamanicgirl09. XD I wasn't trying to change your mind, simply explain mine. ^_^ I tend to get carried away sometimes though. *sweatdrop* >.> Sorry if that caused anything. *bows*

I've always liked classical anime a bit more then modern, probably because i started out with the likes of The Heroic Legend of Prince Arislan and Blue Seed. Although character designs weren't quite as defined something about the backgrounds has always appealed to me more then modern series, but there's also the lack of every color in the rainbow as a haircolor(not that it's a bad thing, but some realism is a good touch) XD.
