No. I don't think it is right. You are born the way you are and you should accept it. I mean...at one point I was going to take growth pills, but I didn't (actually I didn't because it's too late) so I kinda take it as a sign...

Yes, i believe it's all good... how else dya expect me to get a genetically loyal army of 20 foot super-soldiers? :P
ahem... but seriously... there are many advantages to altered genes... such as curing genetic diseases... but i don't think it's really possible to alter the genes of someone already formed... afterall, you'd need to alter the genes in a LOT of cells... i guess you may be able to get a virus to do it for you though...
I think if the technology is there and has been studied properly, then its each to his own, i would take the oppertunity to have a normal child, rather than one with any major disabilities.

I think Huntingston Disease can be dealt with through altering genes........not sure though............
I think my genes were altered..........I am too tall.............it isn't normal........
How tall are you?

Guys please stay on the topic.
Thank you

*takes that serious being the probable tallest member of ACF* . . .
I think..... yes and no. Yes, because we'd be able to stop those diseases that kill.... the nasty ones.
But no - because otherwise, well, we'd end up having waaaaaaay too many people around. (Think of that population explosion - 6 billion people now >_<)

I don't think there is anything wrong with altering genes because the hubbub about it being wrong is from a rather religious point of view (as is abortion). Alot of people who oppose these sort of things are Christian (note I’m not just picking on Christianity) and within Christianity, your given everything from god, so if your destined to have cancer then that’s that, even something hereditary, however, altering genes is Scientific and science and religion don't go together, i.e., evolution vs creationist case.
Therefore it comes down to a morale issue, do i wish to alter my/childs genes for the better, i.e., to rid themselves of say Cancer.
In my opinion this seems like a very valid reason and a religious person who opposes this should not force their own beliefs onto others, for example, protestors who egg/assault (verbally and physically) people who get an abortion and the doctors who do the actual operation.
In saying that, i don't condone such freedom on gene manipulation, as in, 'super babies' as this will create such an unfair advantage in life-this from a person who is SSP members (Scottish socialist party) who’s beliefs are in Marxism and is anti capitalism (capitalism-ruling class etc, the owner ship of the means of production) hell, even education provides an unfair advantage, so i believe (morally) a parent shouldn't go for the super baby affect (high intellect, great fitness, sports skills etc).
On a more grimmer note, the use of genes could pave way the end of capitalism but introduce a tolilitarian society based on mass production of genetically modified humans...end result, no sex!!!!
*calms down* being reading way too much 'brave new world'
Oh, and another point for a Christian kind of person who flames abortion/GM things, take a step back and think....
Did i get any injections? MMR jab to stop mumps, measles and rubella, hell even an anti-cold virus etc, as wouldn't it be gods will for you to catch, or not to catch, rubella (can be fatal, i.e death)...
In conclusion: Yes on gene manipulation to rid a person of a nasty disease, something hereditary etc but no on Super babies.
on the topic of genes, yes on GM foods- look at the benefits it has had on poorer countries, were soil is so barren that 'organic' can't survive but GM, thrives and survives producing food to sustain its own people and help to end hunger.
Well...that’s my 2 pence.

If it's for a desease, and it works, then sure, go ahead. But altering your gene for other purpose isn't morally right. I mean, what will happen if the world was filled with Mozarts, Newtons and Jordans?

Newton was a fool who stole his ideas from a diary!
Anyway, on what 7minutes said. Personally, what's wrong with an unfair advantage? We'd cheat given the chance. Look at computer games, who doesn't cheat here? If given a chance to do better in life then anyone else and make a fortune, who wouldn't take it? The fear people have, is that if super babies turn up, they'll lose out, so they naturally hate it. Simply the bodies way of trying to survive.

i say yes because like in Gundam Seed there are people called coordinators who have enhanced genes which makes them resist diseases more, be able to take in more information (be smarter), they are faster, stronger and can basically do things that normal people cant do
