Anyway, if you're reading this then it must be obvious; ACF has switched over from phpbb3 to vBulletin.

And it works too. Joy. ^_^

Right now the forum probably won't feel the same because of all the new options, the layout, etc are different to what they were on phpBB but trust me.... vBulletin is WAY better.

There's a gazillion of stuff I can put on here now. ^_^ such as:


The long-awaited shoutbox (Done, actually)
Asuka will FINALLY return from vacation.
Username glows, title glows, custom titles.
REPUTATION. (Done. ^^)
Hopefully a blog xD
Hopefully also a new photo gallery (Done. still need to move the old images from everyones galleries to the new one. :/)
lots more other cool stuff that phpbb3 was too lame to be good for >_>
All those should hopefully come soon.

But anyway.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

The user data importer (which was used to import the forum's users, posts, etc from phpbb3 to vBulletin) isn't perfect and thus, you will need to change your password in order to be able to login and continue posting.

To do this, you can do one of several things:


Try logging in; then click the 'forgot your password?' link and enter the email you used to register your account. Go check your email for the mail that arrives on how to reset your password, and then log back in.
email or IM me. Please email me with your username and the password you want it to be changed to. (you should only do this IF you registered with an email you no longer have access to, or on the offchange you don't get the email for step 1.)
Register a new account, and either PM me or post in the 'user accounts' forum.
If you don't do one of the above you won't be able to log back in. Which would be a bummer, wouldn't it? :(

And trust me, I had to use the 'forgot your password' link to get back on here. meshuggeny. >_<

Finally.

Some things (such as avatars, some profile settings) will need to be edited by yourselves. People who used custom tags in their sigs or have large text (cough GG cough) will need to edit or remove them. =)

That's because of my free time. In the next month I will be rather busy and wouldn't be able to take a whole day off for testings and database conversions. Tomorrow will be my last day when I can take a decent amount of time to dedicate to a full update. We really apologize for this, but it had to be done today. Mac got me with it only yesterday night, so I had little time to actually plan a decent announcement. Thanks for letting me know about the avatar, though. I will fix that tomorrow. ^_^

Anyway, the gallery is already up (in the "UserCP" or "Community" navigation button as "Pictures and Albums"), reputation works too (to give it you have to click on the little libra under each post). Tomorrow I will add the shoutbox, a new theme, hopefully Asuka and other things we have promised (if I get to set them up in time, otherwise they will appear slowly on the site).

I thought he would let everyone know of a change to another site, even if distant and let us all know. So that we would be ready for it any day and not be able to login or experience such a frustrating change.

I mean it, not even in the moderator zone I was able to find any thread or post stating about changing the whole forum to vbulletin. Might be better for some bad for some.... I get tired fast of looking at the current theme, since it's standard of windows and looking at a black theme relaxed my eyes...

I added a modified version of AcidTech Red as well. It still doesn't have the icons though, those will come a bit later. I also updated the ranks, starting from 0 (Moogle) to Ragnarok (45000). I know the number of posts is insane, but considering we have like 10 different rangs I thought adding some challenge doesn't hurt. :P

frank had 6 different albums. his personal and 5 others. I know it took him a long time just on the Irui/Zengar album. The others, too, but I know he was especially pleased with that one. And he kept all the pron & questionable images away and didn't include any of his collection of Super Robot Wars characters. Or even Sailor Moon--some really hard to find stuff.

I don't know how he'll lump them all together, if you can find them, if you can download them, if he even really wants to.

I'd better be be quiet and let him talk for himself. Where is he, anyway??

I understand the issue of time and schedule and all that, but i don't see why it was a problem to notify everyone of this in advance. Even a simple "in the near future ACF will be undergoing..." message; even a month or two in advance. Surely you had two minutes to put up such a message. It would have prevented a lot of "wtf is going on" reactions around here. I feel bad for our new members that just joined.

Are you gonna be able to do something about code black and acid tech red themes on this system? Are you gonna be able to fix the width of it so that our banners don't look so ridiculously out of place? Are the banners going to be rotating on refresh? I know i sound like a b*tch right now, but i need to know for sure whether the old banners will work or will be scrapped. Because right now, honestly, i am seeing more negative than positive points about this whole new thing.

Is there any way to make the acid tech and code black layouts the same as they were before this sudden change? The 'new' versions are confusing, and it's not comfortable to navigate. But i'm at least glad that i can have my black background back; the white is blinding and hurts my eyes.

As for the banners......... well me and Flash have done tests and CodeBlack looks awful with the width set to 800px which is why it's set to what it is... so I do apologise for that.

The old banners will have to be removed - that's why I asked yesterday if you still had the psd files. It would be a lot easier for you to resize them to the new board than make them new. >_<

We will put back the rotation script though.

And, we've tried to make the layout the same as it was on phpbb3 but phpBB and vB are two very different forum boards, and it's impossible to make everything as it was on phpBB. The only reason I changed to vB was not to annoy people but because vB has a wider scope and more customization than phpBB - we already have a shoutbox back, and we're working on Asuka right now. Pretty shortly we'll have an effects store as well.

You'll find once you get used to the layout it's not as bad as it seems. I mean hell, I'm getting lost, but I have to deal with it. ^_^

I'm new to vBulletin. So, for the next few days a few things will probably act weird until I get everything fixed. Whilst I'm doing this, if anyone finds a good vBulletin theme that would look good here, feel free to send me it and I'll see if it's good enough to put up. The sooner I get rid of this default theme the better. :3

Please don't take this default theme away unless acid tech red can be lightened up or some other other theme put that my system can read. Right now this is the only one I can see. Even the banners don't show on acid red on my screen.

As for the rest of it, how do you expect someone like Elfina, who has a really hard time with any computer, only has half an hour a day, etc., to be able to deal with "weird" issues while "things are getting fixed"?

Sux, dude and wasn't supposed to happen this way and you know it.

One of the "guarantees" was that this would be an easier system to use, everything would be put back that was lost from the first time around, nothing would be lost with this change and would attract new members, etc.

For you and Flash this might be a grand improvement. Haven't heard from anyone, anything positive, but no one was told what they had to do to log on, if their passwords were killed. That, right there, is so stupid!! Maybe necessary, but totally insensitive to member chaos and confusion.

You think if i just open them in photoshop and stretch them out to new width they will look the same? if it was just "anime chat forums" on plain black background, then sure. I only got the money together for this, like I said, yesterday. I was planning on installing the forum, testing it, adding all the mods and hacks and then importing the user database and swapping over, but as Flash has said, it's only today and yesterday that he has enough free time to be able to do all of this, which is why it was so sudden.

I was preparing to give at least a weeks' notice. His suggestion took me by surprise, since I didn't think he'd have the time to do it so soon.


But as for now, I think the imported CodeBlack and AcidTech Red themes are finalised, besides cleaning up the post buttons and stuff. I will open a thread tomorrow about whether to resize the themes back to being 800px in width or if they're best left as they are (which I think is 1024px in width) before I go anywhere else with the banners.

I didn't think I would lose the banners. I like them. :(


As for the mess it's caused like I said, I was caught suddenly by it as well, so again... apologies. But, me and Flash are working on a notice which will remind visitors that they have to reset their password to log in (if they haven't done so) and what to do if they can't. I think enough mess has been caused and it's time everything was smoothed out and this forum began to pay its way.


Also I removed the 'there may be a few weird things that happen' message on the first post because it's not relevant :lol1: vBulletin is near impossible to break (I've tried) so it's not needed. Everything that is accessible works smoothly. The only changes that are likely to happen is hopefully we will get round to fixing the avatar upload bug (some rare cases where they fail to upload, as well as being unlinkable from offiste) and importing the images from the old gallery, and then over time other things will be added.

I may also fiddle with username colours, but that won't break anything. I will make sure everyone is happy with the changes before I apply them, if at all.


Frank: We will try to keep the standard vBulletin theme (It hurts my eyes, but as not everyone likes dark themes, we need it) unless I can find a similar theme which looks better, or modify CodeBlack to say, CodeWhite. ^_^

I had been using acid red tech all along on the old board. It looks completely different, now. I thought I explained that. the only useable skin for me, anway, right now, is this default thing. Maybe boring, but it's visible.

Flash worked very hard to try to make AcidTech look as much on vB as it did on phpBB. There obviously are differences because the layout is different, but the colours, text size, etc are all the same, so I really don't understand that.

I do find the red text hard to read though.

I think it's the the same thing that happened when Red was first being installed. Remember, I complained then, too, but ended up getting used to it and I wouldn't switch it. Is not enough to worry about. This computer apparently reads colors a little bit differently than what most other people see. It is what it is, Mac. And it's not worth fretting about--besides, at this point, I switched back to ARTech and it's okay. ^^

1) I don't know. I'm limited to 4 images as well; I think it's a default to prevent people spamming smilies. I'm going to try look and increase it to 8. the limit is ridiculous.

3) Again, I don't know. Maybe it can be set up so Super Mods can edit profiles. I need to talk to Flash on that.

4) How many times have I said that there was no way to avoid the problem with the passwords? If you care about ACF as much as I do you would help. If I didn't care about helping people recover accounts I wouldn't be asking people to email or IM me their details. I wouldn't have put a notice up so people visiting the site would know that they have to read this post (and to reset their passwords). I'm as annoyed as you are about the passwords being scrambled but there's -nothing- I can do to recover them except manually change them, or for the users to reset them. ><

5) It means how many members there are active that are using the site, not necessarily on the site at once. To be honest, to have roughly 80 members using the site is good. o_O

6) yes, that's the registered members. It includes active and inactive members.

7) Me and Flash did fix her but she didn't like the new board :P so we had to pack her on a bus back on vacation. She'll be back as soon as I can get hold of Flash as he knows where she is, he said he got her to behave again.

8) On the top right of the modCP there's a link that says 'Forum Home Page'. I'm not sure how visible it is on your screen (It's dark even on mine.) If you click that, it opens a new window back to the board index without closing the modCP.
I'll look through the ModCP in entirety and post a tutorial on what everything does in the staff area. I'm sure you're not the only one confused by it.

Point of information for those who haven't noticed. If you want to be added as a Friend to anyone's list, you need to edit your privacy profile.

But, as a friend, if they open up your profile page, the last PM received will be there for the whole world to see.

Yeah, vB uses a different font size system. It's just downsized them to the lowest number (size=7) from whatever it was (size=150)? ...

Only solution is to manually edit them. :)

Note for all users! Go to the UserCP and go through all the options and click the "Save Changes" button even if all the options are already set. It is not really important you fill things up. It's just that things already filled up get used, otherwise the forum thinks all your options are blank. This is valid only for users who haven't changed any settings since the upgrade.

Yeah, that's fine. The forum is set to not allow more than 4 images in the signature. This is to prevent signatures from lagging the forum with a huge number of pictures in it.

You have included 5 images in your message. You are limited to using 4 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

Images include use of smilies, the BB code tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.
Your signature cannot be longer than 500 characters [I]excluding BB code markup.
Makes sense, I suppose. Will it also automatically deny any sig more than 800 x 300? That should be more than enough area for anyone.

That's correct, anything additional won't allow. Since you already have 5 images in your sig even additional text won't be saved.

As for the size your deduction is also correct. Images larger than that won't be uploaded at all.

Yes, frank, but there is a small workaround. The two dragons can be made one single pic with a transparent background, while the 3 bars one pic. That would make the 5 pics only 2 and you would be able to play with the sig.

Hmm, is there a way to merge animated gifs together? i never really worked with those before, so i'm kinda clueless. Like the Blue, Jomy, and "Terra e..." text in between, can i make it all into one picture?

I think being able to put 800x300 images in sigs is pointless since the width of the post column is something like 600px. o.o

I'm not sure who saw it in the chatbox earlier but - The problem with uploading / linking to offsite avatars has been fixed, tested, and fixed. That should mean that there should be no more problems with people uploading avatars, or linking from an off-site avatar.

OK, listen carefully now. Asuka is back and working, but Mac says she double posts sometimes. After she double posts and you refresh the page the double post disappears. I couldn't reproduce the issue, therefore we decided to let Asuka be tested by all of you. If you notice any weird things happening while talking to her, be sure to report it here or by PMing me the details. Be sure to tell me what you did and which browsers you use (with the version) so I can reproduce the error and possibly fix it.

Quotes are normal. This version of the robot supports them. They can be turned off, though.

She can tell your name if you tell her yours first. The robot has been reinstalled completely, so the old information is not used completely.

I will see what can be done about that. She should be smarter than before, though. I gave her a bigger brain, than she has had before.

Takai, for you acid tech is gray. mine reads almost black. That's what I said even from last time. That's why some colors are so hard to interpret. Like the blue that Mac is using in shoutbox.

Your codes are a mess tho'. I don't know what is causing this. Maybe a key on your keyboard is stack? vBulletin interacts with the keyboard as well. O_o;;
Also try to change the editor. In the quick reply box the last icon to the right. The [a/A] button. That should solve your problem. Also try to clear your cookies. Maybe it's related.

Besides: edit[/[COLOR="White"]COLOR="red"] <-- this is totally wrong and vBulletin will never parse correctly.

My cookies are cleared, and temp files, and history. I never let those build up, anyway. It slows my machine.

The WYSIWYG editor is supposed to add the colours without the tags.

It stands for "What You See Is What You Get". It's supposed to display whatever you add, edit, delete, etc exactly as it's going to appear in your post (without any of the BB tags, although you can manually type them in and it'll add them when you enter the post.)

I've found that if you click to preview, then when you use that colour menu it does add it in as tags, which I find odd. O_o

The "Remove Text Formatting" button resets your text formatting to default (i.e. if you were typing in red, then click it, it'll let you type back in default colour.)

You can also use it to remove formatting from selected text.

The 'remove text formatting' button won't reset whatever colour you chose in that text colour button menu. It just resets the colour / formatting / font of the text you're typing.

You don't need to click the buttons then click back onto the text box, you know.

I've also just noticed if you type a word, click to remove formatting them click the end of the word it goes back to whatever colour it was typing. Make sure you added a space or something after the text. o.o

And, I can't find anything wrong with your account. It types, posts and edits the same way as mine does. x_x

Click to change, click to remove current format and go back to default. If it shouldn't work for me, here, then I'll suspect it's my keyboard/mouse and the way they might be inter-acting with vB.

For the rest of it, my acct was working okay. Just the confusion I had using the editor.

Asuka, though, seems to want to run a continuous thread with unlimited posts, on one page, until you leave the current page, go back to a previous page, and return to the current page. Then the page sequencer kicks in for whatever the post limit per page is set for. I set mine at ten. She ran a series of 80 posts on the one page until I went back, then returned. Is Asuka, what can I tell you. lol

Sarah was all unhappy cause she had to get rid of some banners, then the badge she picked wouldn't show. Maybe she didn't know they could be combined into a single image. 1) No doubleposting, at least not yet. I don't dare even say anything like to her. She's behaving rather well, really. ^^

1) That's because of how vBulletin works. I might try to add an auto-refresh sequence after the post to force vBulletin to reprocess the thread. But this needs testing first. As for double posting ... go ahead ... Asuka is still under testing and we need to solve as many bugs as possible. So don't hold back. ;)

2) If you don't check "remember me" when you log in your account gets logged out after 15 mins of inactivity.

Is only 4 badges, the rest of them still show along with the default banners and the custom banners. I haven't said anything about this to Montreal. She probly doesn't even know.

Oh, that's not due to the forum. It's an issue on TinyPic's side. Montreal probably deleted the images or TinyPic did. Either way it's not related to our transition. Let Montreal know, though. She might tell you what has happened to those 4 images.
