1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I guess you could say it helps me escape from the real life where things usually aren't nearly as interesting or as beautiful.
2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
I watch many anime at the same time, currently 19. Mainly because there are so many i want to watch and i feel like i'll never have the time, so i at least want to 'try' everything ^^; and if something really grabs my attention, i can't help but start watching it, even if i have a lot of others to finish or catch up on.
3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
If we're talking strictly about sub vs. dub, not involving censorship, name changes, and other silliness. I definitely prefer sub because i believe that any work similar to anime should be presented in its original language that it was created in. Also to me a voice is a large part of a character, so much can be shown through the voice. The original creators and directors don't pick seiyuu (Japanese voice actors) at random -- it's a very complicated process. They work very hard to find a perfect voice for a character, it saddens me when they change it in another country just to make it easier for the audience, be it in U.S. or anywhere else. And it saddens me that there are many people who prefer dub just because they don't like the idea of having to read something aside from watching it. I am also very much into seiyuu, so for myself personally, watching something dubbed is equivalent to disrespecting the seiyuu and their difficult job of giving life to the characters.
4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
I would watch pretty much anything, except hentai, or explicit yaoi/yuri. Demographics-wise, in general, i'd have to say that i prefer seinen and josei over the others (that's not to say that i don't also watch a bunch of shounen and shoujo lol). Genre-wise, i will probably like absolutely any anime in sports/games category. No, i'm not into sports or games. But this kind of anime always feels very real; it's so easy to relate to the characters and their dreams, because probably all of us know what it's like to try hard to succeed, to have no choice but to compete with others at some point. Any anime with tournament themes show it very well, and at that point it becomes an anime about life in general, whereas the sport or game that is being portrayed is simply a "method" of communicating with the audience. Speaking of life, another genre that i would watch any time is slice of life, especially those very simple yet very realistic stories about peaceful every-day life. It's very relaxing and heartwarming. I think i'll stop here before i go into discussion of every existing genre LOL because i really do watch everything o.o
5) How long have you been watching anime?
About 7 years.

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?

I agree with what Takai said it's a perfect escape. Also it helps bring out the creative side in me ^^

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)

Usually through netflix or buying them and I usually draw/color while watching anime. I watch as many episodes as I can before my boyfriend gets home from work lol

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)

I watch either

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)

I'll watch anything for the most part if it just sounds interesting except yaoi I really can't get in to it no matter how hard I try >.< Nothing against it just can't get in to it =/ and I also wont watch hentai.

5) How long have you been watching anime?

Over ten years

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I honestly can't remember what it was that drew me to anime but all I know is that I've always been a fan of cartoon and for some reason the whole genre just struck a chord with me. The animation, acting, storylines, etc are all a gazillion times better than any standard 'kids' shows; and also just the fact that people say 'cartoons are for kids' and have obviously never seen something like Gantz.

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
I just watch it whenever I want to. Though usually I end up watching as much in one go as I can. I once marathoned the entire first two series' of Code Lyoko in one night. I was bored >_>

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
It's not that I don't like subs. It's just that I have a fairly bad vision impairment so having to read subtitles forces me to concentrate on that area of the screen and not what's actually happening - it pretty much disrupts my concentration and stops me being so drawn into the anime as it maybe wants me to be. So, I prefer to watch with the dubs rather than subs, although I have watched a few series where the subs were definitely better (i.e. Dragon Drive's japanese was so much more fitting than the english dub) but also think; some dubs are incredible (i.e. samurai champloo.)

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
I apparently watch anything actiony/adverntury - stuff like Outlaw Star, Samurai Champloo, Tenjo Tenge (can never spell that right x.x), as well as anything that involves dragons. xD

5) How long have you been watching anime?
Since Dragonball Z was first aired here. I think that was like, 1997 or something. I can't remember. x.x

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I'd probably watch the same things if they were live-action, but nobody makes anything live-action that compares to the anime stories. I like the fact that it isn't "dumbed-down" to appeal to the lowest common denominator, like most television shows (I don't even have my satellite connected anymore, everything I watch is pre-recorded). In anime the only limitations are the animator's imaginations and patience, you don't have producers fretting about special effects budgets.

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
I buy most of it on DVD, and watch one or two episodes at a time. On Sunday mornings I hang out with friends and we usually watch a couple of hours together.

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite) Either is fine. I want to learn Japanese, so I like listening to it.

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
Anything that has action is good. I can't stand people standing around talking about relationships. I generally prefer dark evil stuff, like Elfen Lied, or funny off-the-wall shows like FLCL. Can't get into Sailor Moon, .hack put me to sleep.

5) How long have you been watching anime?
Started watching Speed Racer and Marine Boy, I think right around 1970. *does the math* that's 38 years ago. Any one beat that?

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I would have to say, the deeper meaning of stories. In ways it makes me feel like I can sometimes understand the mind of the creator. I really can't say why I feel like, this. All I know is that for as long as I can remember I've always looked into the deeper meaning of things. even if it was something really small.
2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
Special way? I guess when ever I get that itch, I would watch then like a marathon. I would only stop if I needed to go to the bathroom or shower.
3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
I don't really have a preference. But I feel that both that their flaws. Subbed I feel like some great meaning is missed, and with Dubbed I feel like that mean just because really chopped.
4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
Nope.
5) How long have you been watching anime?
Since elementry. I think my first Anime show that I watched was either Sailor moon, or Gatchaman. I think thats was it was. That would have been when I was 5 or so.

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I imagine the reason was because theres an actual story as opposed to say Looney Tunes, its not always a happily ever after ending too which i found espically interesting. I also love the art and some of them manage to make me stop and think about the world in comparison to what the series may have portrayed.

Wish I could say the same about non anime shows.

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
usually an entire DVD or two at a time,if a friend is over we might watch it all in one go,aside from that nothing special.

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
Im indifferent honestly, but if I had to choose one it'd be japanese.

Some things just dont flow well in a different language, specifilly some jokes, then theres the fact not all english companies keep the anime accurate and have a habit of removing important aspects of the show just so its suitable for children when almost no anime are child friendly.

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
As long as its not sport themed I can watch anything, but I'd say shoujo and shonen are watched the most by me.

5) How long have you been watching anime?
14,maybe 16 years

A series of questions for my research project ^^ posting in this thread gives me permission to quote you all unless otherwise specified in your post or through pm.

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?

I have a strong grounding in cartoons and animation. Anime is very clean, precise and usually defined. It s also generally more sophisticated than kiddy cartoons. I appreciate classical Japanese hard-edge graphics with characterizations that are consistent. Anime represents the finer evolution of cartoons into a genuine art form that is unique in its preentation.

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)

No, no special ways. I watch it all, as much as I can, for as long as I can.

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)

I prefer sub. I hate censorship of any kind. Visual, voice, cutting, etc. Subs probably remain truer to the original than otherwise.
4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)

I prefer love/fantasy/sci-fi/ecchi combinations. I have no problem with any types except those that are needlessley cruel and violent with no point or purpose to wanton blood-letting.

5) How long have you been watching anime?

About 12, 14 years. ^^

Thank you!!!! *hugs*

You're welcome!! *hugs* back ^_^

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
anime has a magic about it that i can't seem to find in anything else. it's like asking someone why they like poetry, or video games, or anything else; it strikes a chord in that particular person's interests. it has a beauty and humor i love.
2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
it's hard for me to watch anime on the computer, for some reason. though if i really feel the need, i will stream it or torrent it. i like to watch my anime with my best friend, usually multiple episodes at once, on my tv.
3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
i love the japanese language. i love they way they pronounce things, the color in their voices, the different accents on each word. but like everyone else says, in the dub, they make things 'easier' for the english speaking viewer by changing words and muddling the meaning. i'd rather have a directly translated sub than a changed dub.
4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
i like the drama, horror, shounen and comedy genres. i'm not a big fan of shoujo or sports....though i am a huge fan of sailor moon.
5) How long have you been watching anime?
i watched it without realizing it was anime for about 8 years. ive watched it obsessively for 6.

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
{|·The animation, an the aesthetic quality of each character design, also the variety of storylines you can find. Oddly enough, 76% of designers are fans of anime lol·|}
2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
{|·Whenever I buy a new anime DVD, or several, I watch the first two episodes of each volume(s) the first day, and then watch the remaining two the next day *assuming its a 4 episode disc*. ...and I always watch anime with a big steaming bowl of ramen lol. Been doing that since I was 16·|}
3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
{|·I only watch the sub version of a series when its something that I'm highly anticipating *like I did with D.Gray-man or Gurren Lagann*, other than that, I buy the domestic DVD's *I'm a slow reader, so sometimes when I watch subs I have to pause read it then continue, whenever I've missed some dialog. lol, it annoys the heck out of Clover·|}
4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
{|· I have a wide range of preferences, one thing I've found is that I tend to lean towards series with profound storylines *ie: Fullmetal Alchemist, Evangelion, Last Exile, Deathnote*, also action titles like Samurai 7 or Tokyo Majin·|}
5) How long have you been watching anime?
{|· As long as most of you guys have been alive lmao. I'm 28 now and I started watching since I was 10, so  18 years  whoa... I'm an Otaku Fossil... I'm a... Otassil ·|} :XD:

1) What draws you to anime? Why is it that you like it?
I think it's the artwork, and how free and imaginative you can be with it. It suits my imagination more than other animated TV. I also have a love for anything Japanese.

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
I rent a lot of my anime from lovefilm.com, so I watch the whole disc in one go whenI receive it. I just watched the whole series of Full Metal Alchemist by renting DVDs.

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
Generally I prefer dubbed, but for some reason I prefer some of them subbed, especially Pretear. I have no idea why but I prefer Pretear subbed. I tried to watch it dubbed but I didn't like it as much.

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
I like Full Metal Alchemist and NGE but canonly watch it in moderation, because you won't be feeling positive afterwards, but I like anything like Love Hina, Ah! My Goddess! (I have the Oh! My Goddess! previous DVDs but I prefer the newer more fun series), and I really like Excel Saga, because it's so silly.

5) How long have you been watching anime?
If you don't include Pokemon then I've only been watching it about 5 years, but I am only 21. My boyfriend introduced me to it and I've liked it ever since.

i love anything which has to do with art and creativity

2) Do you have any special ways of watching your anime? (ex/ streaming multiple episodes at once, one episode per night etc.)
usually i finish an entire boxset in one night unless it is extremely long (200+ episodes - Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Ranma, etc..) or if i am a zombie from being so sleepy

3) Do you prefer sub or dub? Why? (please be polite)
it depends
i listen to both voice styles and watch whichever i feel best fits the characters

4) Is there a certain type of anime that you prefer over others? (ex/ shoujo vs. shonen, etc.)
mecha would have to be my fav
in my opinion you can't call yourself an anime fan if you don't like mecha anime

5) How long have you been watching anime?
almost 17 years now
