aren't you happy that i'm the first one to ask a question? >.>

Brian

Kiwi is okay mixed with other stuff, like in a smoothie. I don't like it all by itself though.

Takai

what other characters do you like in Blood+, aside from Saya? lol

Brian
12-05-2008, 12:31 AM
I like all the characters in Blood+, if you mean do I think they're believable and interesting. Who would I hang out with? David-san, probably, we think alike. I'd take Saya on a date but would want to count on her in a fight. I could hang out with Hagi I guess, practicing swordplay or listening to him play. I'm guessing conversation would be pretty limited.

Takai
12-05-2008, 08:19 PM
David-san is so cool! haha you use -san on him too. for some reason it just doesn't sound right to me without the -san, i have a lot of respect for him.

what would you recommend to someone who liked Blood+?

Brian

I'd recommend they talk to Takai, coz she knows way more about anime than I do.

Takai

hahaha! well i am glad you are watching 3 of my favorite anime (Blood+, Monster, Le Chevalier D'Eon) and liking them ^_^

do you play any music instruments?

Brian
12-06-2008, 02:37 PM
I used to play the trumpet, though I haven't touched one in over a decade. I have a keyboard that I fool around with sometimes.

Brian
12-13-2008, 02:26 PM
Take the "C" subway to the Canal street station, then walk one block east until you see a narrow alley with a sign that says "Liberty Tailoring". At the end of the alley is a door on the right. Enter the building. There's a fat lady who will talk to you in Armenian, but you can ignore her and go up the stairs to the third floor. The hallway there is guarded by a doberman pinscher who's a sucker for sleeping tablets hidden in hamburgers. Once the dog has fallen asleep, go to the second door on the left and knock twice. The door will be answered by twin girls who will offer you the translations, but these are inferior copies with many errors. Insist on speaking directly with "Asham-Tzu". The girls will conduct you to a room where an old man sits on a pillow, reading manga all day. He will give you the translations you desire.

Like I would really know...

Necromancers are a fairly independent bunch. It's not like we have conventions or anything.

Brian
12-23-2008, 12:40 AM
fair enough...

TEN QUESTIONS:
1. What languages do you speak other than English?
Fluent in Spanish, pretty good in German, and basic phrases (hello, goodbye, one beer please, where's the bathroom, thank you) in Russian, Korean, French, and Japanese. I can count in Russian, except I always confuse twenty and two-hundred.
2. What is the closest thing to you that is blue? Mouse pad.
3. What article of clothing do you never ever want to get rid of? Skull muscle shirt.
4. Favorite dessert? Vanilla ice cream over a warm fudge brownie.
5. Wierdest thing you've ever eaten? Tako.
6. Tea, coffee or hot chocolate? Coffee, usually.
7. Rational decision maker, or feelings and emotions? 100% rational.
8. Sport you would like to try but never have? Hang-gliding.
9. Place in the world you would like to visit, even though you've never been there:
Either Petra or Machu Picchu would be cool. Maybe Bangkok for a couple of days.
10. What real animal would you like to have as a pet (anything that currently exists)?
A coatamundi, they're fun. Or an Australian Frill Lizard.

Nothing. As long as they're just stalking me, that means they're wisely keeping their distance.

how would you react if an inanimate object began talking to you?

Brian
12-30-2008, 01:16 AM
depends on what it was and what it said, I guess. If it was my ironing board, I'd be all "wtf I have a talking ironing board, what kind of conversation would you have with that?" If one of my weapons or my car started talking to me, I'd hope they weren't too evil.

Takai
12-30-2008, 01:36 AM

Brian
12-31-2008, 02:08 AM
Takai - I love discussing philosophy so I'd probably spend a lot more time ironing my clothes. A zen ironing board would be pretty cool.

Montreal - I joined to learn more about anime. I see new stuff almost every time I log in. And I love interacting with the other members of the forum, it's nice to talk to people who share my interests and have some brains in their heads. (anyone wanna buy a house on the Redneck Riviera?)

XD

what are your thoughts on Johan so far? (Monster)

Brian
01-11-2009, 11:22 PM
That he hasn't put in an appearance since the beginning of the series. I started wondering around episode four or five if Johan wasn't really an alternate personality of Dr. Tenma. It was kinda funny when in the last episode I watched, the detective came to the same conclusion. I'm still not sure, so no spoilers anyone... I hope I have the patience to watch the series all the way to the end.
If this were a book I could stick with it, but I seem to have less of an attention span when it comes to visual media. Almost zero when it comes to manga. Wonder why that is... I can read a history book or Lord of the Rings over and over, but never even finished the first volume of Chobits.

Takai
01-11-2009, 11:25 PM

The Guiltiest Gear

If you had a friend that was so needy for attention they'd randomly shock people who ignore them with tazers, how would you deal with them?

Brian
01-14-2009, 03:13 AM
The same way I dealt with the needy guy on the convention staff who likes to randomly hug people: "If you ever touch me again, I'll kick you across the room. Seriously."
We're still friends, pretty much, but he hasn't tried to hug me again.

Takai

why didn't you answer whether or not you like Lunge? >.> did you think it was rhetorical? lol

what anime do you plan to review next?
Runge is pretty cool. I can't tell if I haven't seen enough of the show to watch his character develop, or if he's just so obsessive that he seems a little one-dimensional.

I might write a review for Mouse, so far all the reviews have been for shows we really liked. I could write about one that wasn't all that great, just for balance.

Brian
01-15-2009, 01:15 AM
Have you ever been in trouble with the law? xD
During the early stages of my divorce, my ex decided to tell the cops that I had hit her (a total lie). The next morning at work I got served with a restraining order that kept me from going to my own house (that I owned long before I met her, and that I paid the mortgage and all the bills for). I was on the street for three weeks until the hearing where a judge threw out the order. That really sucked.
Other than that, got lectured about illegal fireworks in July, and a speeding ticket in Montgomery a few months back.

Takai
01-17-2009, 02:22 AM
so you haven't seen my Legend of Duo review? i thought 6/10 was a pretty poor rating, in my book at least XD
what overall rating would you give Mouse then?

Brian
01-17-2009, 02:25 PM
eh, the Legend of Duo review snuck past me - I would probably take a look at it anyway because the artwork looks okay.
I'd probably give Mouse an overall 6 or 7 because the characters and storyline are almost infantile, but the actual animation and artwork weren't all that bad. I don't regret the time I spent watching it, but there's certainly better stuff out there.

(i promise to drop the subject of socks after this one lol)

Brian
01-21-2009, 12:59 AM
I have some brown ones somewhere, but I never wear them because all my suits are grey and black.

Once upon a time, I had some hideous grey and pink argyle socks that I bought for Clash Day, I wore them with purple shorts and a green t-shirt. Dunno what happened to them.

Does the futur?e make you more nervo?us or excit?ed?????

Brian
01-24-2009, 01:27 PM
Does the future make you more nervous or excited?

Neither. After all, how do you define what "the future" really is? I think I perceive time differently than a lot of people. I see things as discrete time-space events, with different influences creating the probability of various results. So for me, the idea of going to Disneyland tomorrow would be about as exciting as an algebra problem. The past is memories, the future does not exist. There is only the Now.

What is your favorite memory?

Brian
04-12-2009, 07:39 PM
That's a tough question to ask old people, we have so many... I'll pick one at random.

Once when I was a young lad, I was visiting my grandfather's lake cabin. We were having a great time, swimming, fishing, and then for lunch one day they served jello with stuff in it, which I hate. Of course, Grandma and Grandpa lived through the depression, so if you had food on your plate, you had to eat it. I sat on a tree stump, ate everything else and was wondering if I could get away with tossing it into the bushes. But they knew me well enough to keep an eye out for that. Just when I had decided to eat the nasty jello, a chipmunk ran over to me, climbed onto my leg and began eating the jello from my plate. Everyone thought that was so cute, they ran and got the camera. I thought it was a miracle. I've always been grateful to chipmunks after that.

What did you think about all that back in 1999?

Brian
04-13-2009, 02:32 AM
That people (in general) are stupid, and believe all sorts of nonsense without any facts to back it up, and if you point out that there's no proof of crystal healing powers, or that there are many scientists who disagree with global warming, or that countries which have embraced socialism end up with even higher poverty and unemployment, they just get all huffy.

Do you think there is such a thing as fate or destiny? (random I know ha ha)

Brian
04-26-2009, 09:52 PM
I don't believe in fate. Observation and concious choice define our reality, so the world is what we make of it. I supposed I believe somewhat in destiny, as in "he's destined to become a great artist", but I then I'd have to say that in many cases destiny goes sadly unfulfilled.

You get rep when other people like your posts and click on the little scale thingy. Apparantly someone liked something I said. Try finding some epic pics for the image scavanger hunt, that's a good way to score rep.

They have fireflies in Minnesota, that's where I'm headed for summer vacation. I haven't seen any down here in Florida, probably because people use too much pesticides.

I'd get their True Names as quickly as possible. Being proclaimed ruler is cool, but if you trust demons you're a fool. After that... have a few people disappear, play some practical jokes, then resign. I'm not much into the "running other people's lives" thing.

Algebra is easy, it's just logic. Trigonometry and calculus aren't hard for me, but I haven't looked at them in so long I'd have to relearn them before I could solve a problem. Never tried statistics but I don't imagine it would be that tough.

Food: Nature Valley Granola bars. Enough taste to make them edible, not enough to get sick of them really fast. And reasonably nutritious.
Movie: The Name Of The Rose. (Although The Hunger came in a very close second.)
Song: Allegri's "Miserere" (assuming it has to be vocal music with words).

Anyways I was wondering if you have ever ridden a horse? If so what kind and what was its name?

Last time I rode a horse was in Monterey, California, near Big Sur, on one of those "rent-a-horse" trips. I don't remember what kind or the name. I do remember that we were riding near a cliff, and the horse got spooked by a wasp and started running and the lady in charge freaked out, but I did the Horse Whisperer thing and it calmed right down.

Haha, I had an Appaloosa named Sunny who got spooked while I was galloping on a trail ride once while camping. He knock me off and I ended up smashing my face and knees into the ground and getting dragged a few feet (road rash is awful). :P My Dad said that I didn't know how to fall, my knees have been messed up every since then.

Nope, I'm a relative newbie here. I've been watching anime (and programming computers) since before some of you guys were born, but I didn't realize for a long time how popular it had become. So I poked around for a bit and found ACF. I've looked at other forums and this is the only one where people act grown-up enough that I feel comfortable.

Probably Mac. I'd take him to London, see the sights, then hit the pubs til they close, then sleep on the train ride back home, and then spend a day playing computer games. And I'd cook something good for lunch. Hara, you can tag along if you wish :D

Yow I'm definately warm weather. Anyplace you can't walk outside in a swimsuit all year long isn't fit for human habitation. I like swimming in the ocean, but the water around here gets full of weeds, yucky. I prefer snorkling in coral reefs.

Why does my cat walk all over me when i try to sleep?

Brian
02-11-2010, 01:44 PM
The good news is, the cat is guarding its territory, staying on vigilantly on patrol while you slumber and making sure you aren't attacked by mice while you sleep. The bad news is that the cat considers you part of its territory, sort of a large food-dispensing cat toy.

Paradox
03-05-2010, 11:27 AM
Which do you think is more intelligent, cats or dogs?

Brian
03-06-2010, 02:10 PM
I think the evidence favors dogs, but there's no real way to be sure. Cats are lazy and manipulative, so maybe they're really smart but choose to hide it. Dogs do stuff like herding sheep, guarding junkyards and jumping into freezing water to retrieve ducks. Smart cats wouldn't reveal that they're capable of that kind of work.

How do I do it? Put a seedling tree in a bonsai pot and let it grow for two or three years. The next step is buying a book or talking to someone who knows how to grow them. I haven't gotten that far yet. You can also start bonsais from cuttings or from roots.

I do know there are many different styles. I think with the Drake Elm I want to go for the "Literati" style, so I may have to remove some of the branches. For the Golden Rain tree I'll probably just do Informal Upright. Someday I want to do a group planting of Japanese Maples.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I love that movie too <3

Brian
06-25-2010, 01:10 AM
Sorry, it took me a while to set up the experiment to check this.
Purpose: measure the airspeed of an unladen swallow
Equipment: 1 swallow, a "spud-gun" launching device, radar gun
Procedure: Loaded the unladen swallow into the launcher, added propellant, and fired. The swallow's velocity upon exiting the launch tube was measured at approximately 65 miles per hour. The velocity quickly dropped to about 40 miles per hour, which was maintained for the duration of the flight, until it smacked into the neighbor's house, at which point it abruptly dropped to zero. The experiment should be repeated to establish norms, but the threatened arrival of law enforcement agencies resulted in an early termination of the procedure.

Brian

Haven't read anything by Dostoevsky yet, I did read "A Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovitch" a while back. I like my music sort of grim and dark, but when it comes to literature I lean more towards action, horror and humor.

Adaptations of books phail because the producers try to reach the broadest possible market. So they change the story around and dilute it, hoping to increase its appeal, while actually just ruining the concept and alienating the best target audience. Stupid, but that's how it works.
