Original Title: Soul Eater.
Format: TV series, 51 episodes, ongoing.
Year(s): 2008 -
Genres/Themes: supernatural, comedy, action; shounen.
Animation Studio: Bones.
Director: Igarashi Takuya.
Original Author(s): Ookubo Atsushi.

Number of Episodes Seen: 26/51.

Introduction (optional):

I came across this anime when I saw a manga scan of a character sneaking into Dr. Frankenstien's (commonly called Stein for short) lab to steal test questions. That peaked my interest enough to seek out the plot.

Plot and Setting/Story: 6/10

Death City, a place ruled by the God of Death Shinigami-sama, wherein a school known as Shibusen trains weapon technicians and demon weapons who consume the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch to become a Deathscythe worthy of bieng weilded by Shinigami-sama in order to prevent the births of Demon Gods.

I disliked that the characters just wait for the villains to act after revealing their faces, instead of hunting them down. Afterward, they don't really do anything in particular and hang around until they get a new assignment.

As you can guess, it has an academic feel to it, but not overly so as the characters spend more time hunting evil souls than in the classroom.

Characters/Character Development: 10/10

This is one of my favorite aspects of the show. All the characters are different from the norm in some way or the other. And despite the huge cast, they all get about equal amounts of screentime.

This is the only anime I have watched where I wanted to consider everyone my favorite character.

Art/Animation: 10/10

If you know anything about Bones, you know that they don't cut corners. Expect to see great animation quality that does not fade throughout the series.

I especially like the fluid movements of the characters.

Music/Sound: 10/10

The music here is different from most anime. First off, it's all in English save for a song or two. Second, almost all the songs are vocalized, but it's kept at a low enough volume not to drown anything out.

Additional Comments or Warnings:

There are a few ecchi scenes here and there involving the character Blair, but it's thankfully not a plentiful occurance.

Overall Anime Rating: 8/10

A very good review. Haven't seen it myself, so these reviews are important to people like me. Especially like the inclusion of screen shots. That, also, gives me a better idea of the anime.

Thanks, GG. ^_^
