Watched FLCL. It was pretty cool, kept me guessing. But it's a good thing I watched it alone, 'cause I kept backing up and going through it frame by frame. There was a lot of "Did I see what I thought I just saw?" and in some cases it was "Yes, and that's wierd". Did anyone else do that while they watched it?

Even this many years later, I still can't say for sure that I understood 100% of it. It was strange, in a good way, unique, and deep. It was an interesting watch, the animation was also outstanding and so was the voice acting (Japanese). It's probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it ^^

i think one of the main themes of FLCL was confusion, you weren't supposed to understand it. at least that's what i got out of it. i own the series and it has a lot of little things here and there, it's a fun series to sit and watch repeatedly.

I made a new amv.

it's a little crappy. and stuff but ... here you go.

Just thought I'd pull that up. ^_^

Is not crappy at all, My BrokenWings. Is very, very good and captures the spirit(s) and attitudes of FLCL.

FLCL is a classic.

From art to plot to action to insanity (maybe) is one of those that has enough interesting material to be forever interesting and worthwhile repeated watching and discussings.

Animations are the best! Voice acting is superb. Art is awesome. If you look carefully, btw, you'll notice minor differences in color, shading, perspective, etc. Different artists worked on it.

I've never watched FLCL, it doesn't exist over the pond >.>;

I thought it was about guitars and music O.o; Or is it just that crazy girl with the axe?

FLCL isn't something you can describe in one simple word or phrase. You just can't say "FLCL is about..." because that's where you'd get stuck ^^ I can't believe something that's been popular for so long doesn't exist where you live o_o

FLCL is #3 on my ultimate Top 10 series of all time

Coincidentally, my top 3 favs are all Gainax animes lol.

lol, interestingly enough, you can say that i'm a Gainax hater, but FLCL is what i call one of the very few rare exceptions (along with Kare Kano).

They've not even been around a year here yet.

But I take back what I said. I discovered a FLCL DVD in my DVD store xD. first two episodes only though. O.o

funny thing is, there are 6 episodes...and the dvds are expensive, so you end up spending more money on a 6 episode series spread on 3 dvds than a 26 episode anime.

Mac

There are only 6 episodes?

It's getting weirder and weirder by the minute.... o.o;

Takai

lol what's weird about 6 episodes? it -is- an OVA xD

they sure made a lot of money off it if they only put 2 episodes on a DVD =_= usually the dvd holds 3 or 4. but then again, they -are- OVAs, so they were never aired, only released on DVDs. some OVAs are released -one- at a time (one episode on dvd), so it's even more expensive XD

The guy I borrowed it from said if you watch it in reverse order, it makes more sense. I didn't try that.

BTW I just now noticed that no one ever answered the original question in the thread, about going through some of the scenes frame-by-frame.... I guess that means I'm the only one who was obsessive enough to do that.

ut then again, they -are- OVAs, so they were never aired, only released on DVDs.

well, they air on [adult swim] about once a year...

that doesn't count ^^; i meant that original OVAs never air on Japanese tv. by definition OVA is released on dvd right away, unlike the series.

And..... No. I haven't watched it frame-by-frame, although that hella-confusing scene that was done in some sort of manga-style art and layout thing needs watching again. I didn't see, read, or even understand half of it. I was too busy laughing because Haruka kept cracking me up.

It makes sense? LOL
jk jk it just takes some thinking to figure everything out; i don't think it's senseless or meaningless, even if it may seem like just a strange comedy on the surface.

weren't the manga-style scenes gotten directly from the manga pages? i might be wrong as i read and watched it very long time ago.

lol i dont think anything by Gainax makes sense

Gainax has little to do with it since FLCL is a manga adaptation. It's not Gainax's original work.

She's a little bit washed out, but this is one of the attitudes present throughout all the episodes.

Don't ask, just look at it.

The image in my gallery is much better.

her name is Haruko, not Haruka >.> lol

still, Mamimi is my favorite in FLCL <3

frank

Yes, it is. Did I misspell it? I'll fix it. In the gallery? I'll check.

Yes, Mamimi is my other favorite.

But Haruko is the most insane. Except maybe for the father.
But he's just a pervy lech. lol

All fixed. The file name spelled it with an a. And I didn't catch the error. o.o

For anyone who cares: ^_6

Naota Nandaba is the protagonist of the series, obsessed with appearing mature and attempts to act nonchalant. He idolizes his older brother Tasuku, who represents for Naota what it means to be an "adult". Tasuku lives in the United States and plays professional baseball -- he is never shown in the anime, except for in a flashback (however only his silhouette is shown) and a picture in which Tasuku is holding his "American girlfriend".

Haruko Haruhara is Mabase's newest resident, an extraterrestrial investigator for the Galactic Space Patrol Brotherhood. She becomes the Nandaba household maid while working to find Atomsk, the most powerful space pirate in the galaxy. Her guitar is most closely related to a Rickenbacker bass Model 4003; she uses it to create an N.O. portal in Naota's head and once on Amarao in the episode Brittle Bullet, through which comes several Medical Meccanica robots.

Canti is a Medical Meccanica robot. He was manufactured by Medical Meccanica and was used by MM to capture Atomsk. It is later revealed that Atomsk can manifest through Canti, with Naota being the catalyst.

Mamimi Samejima is a high school truant. She is lonely and depressed, adopting several pets and naming them all "Takkun" as a replacement for Naota's brother, and develops arsonistic tendencies. She thinks of Naota as a replacement for Tasuku, befriending him, but later grows disinterested when Naota begins to show independence.

Eri Ninamori is the daughter of the mayor of Mabase and the president of Naota's sixth grade class. Ninamori is a complex character- like Naota she is obsessed with acting grown-up but she often loses her composure in anger or excitement. Ninamori is so concerned with her public image that she hides her frustrations over her parents' divorce and the fact that she wears glasses.

Yes, Mamimi is my other favorite.
But Haruko is the most insane.

Both of them scare me. Haruko would probably kick my butt, and Mamimi would set fire to my house if she got depressed. "Hey chief, I was feelin' kinda down."

LOL

Actually, Haruko would probably try and recruit you, seducing you in the process, and
Mamimi would probably want you to lie in the grass, or sit under the bridge with her, smoking cigarettes.

XD

Knowing myself, I would never get along with Haruko, no matter how fun or insane she is. I like her and all, but I can't imagine myself hanging out with her for any reasons.

Mamimi is the opposite for me. I can relate to her easily and can understand her. I feel like I'd have a lot to talk about with her, and I wouldn't mind listening to her tales or whatever she is depressed about

So I spelt Haruko wrong. I was watching it at 2am in the morning and didn't have subtitles on. x_x

I wouldn't want to get near her anyway. She'd probably kill me with that guitar.

I love this anime, and it will allllllways be one of my favorites :] Now I really want to try and watch it backwards xD

I am quite fond of Naota the most, he's just so cute... I actually nicknamed my fiance Takkun in middle school xD He didn't really get it, but I still call him by that sometimes, when he makes me really happy lol

I do like Mamimi too, I just want to hug her <3

Haruko is pretty awesome, I think that I could handle hanging out with her, but probably for only so long : P
