Ask away, any question, I will be completely honest.

Where were you when Asuka decided to come pay us a visit?

that isn't a criticism, just a question. :swe:

Montreal
03-01-2008, 08:25 PM
It's not really my call, also, I can't do anything about asuka except delete posts, so i'm mostly just deleting everything said and replied to regarding Asuka.

(sorry, I forgot about the AI forum settings, it's been dealt with)

Question: What screen area is your desktop? (random)

o.o

Montreal
03-01-2008, 08:28 PM
1152x864, but I usually end up using 1024x768 wallpapers.

Are you gonna tell us more about yourself, or do we have to guess? ;)

Montreal
03-01-2008, 09:18 PM
I think that question should be looked at in retrospect, do we always have to guess about YOU, keated? ;)

frank
03-01-2008, 11:55 PM
Do you think you'll ever "out-grow" anime?

Montreal
03-02-2008, 03:30 AM
The truth is, I'm so fickle, I actually might. I have gone through long phases where I didn't watch anime for a few months, but I think it's something I have a love and passion for...you never know, but I don't think I will.

frank
03-02-2008, 04:03 AM
Are you motivated as a graphic artist more than anything else?

I know you've got lots and lots of talents and skills, but you seem to return to the world of graphics. ^^

Montreal
03-02-2008, 04:42 AM
I'd say my three main passions/goals are:

1. Graphic Design
2. Photography
3. Writing

my dream is to be a professional photographer, but i think i understand where my true talent lies; that is graphic design. even on a bad day i can come up with something satisfactory to others, even if i don't think it is. graphic design is something that comes to me easily, and it tends to get the job done creativity wise. i'd say i have a future in graphic design more than the other 3.

frank
03-02-2008, 09:07 PM
Have you tried writing or photography professionally?

If not, why?

If yes, what and when? ^^

Montreal
03-02-2008, 11:43 PM
My mother wants to self publish writing works of mine, and i want to include photography in the book. I don't know when we will do this, but I plan on doing it someday.
I don't know if this would count as 'professional' but I am doing my first photoshoot with a band on Tuesday.

frank
03-03-2008, 03:04 PM
It counts. ^^ Professionalism really has to do more with quality and attitude than payment.

Same question as to Sene. How much time do you spend daily on anime--including everything, even forums?

Sarah
03-03-2008, 04:26 PM
I don't know if I can ask a question before you have a chance to reply to the last poster? I think I just asked my question. :?

Montreal
03-03-2008, 08:32 PM
You can, the user just needs to address both questions in their reply.

frank, i'd say on the average day when i'm online i'd spend around 2+ hours on forums. i don't actually sit and watch anime very often.

frank
03-04-2008, 10:32 PM
Then, to be as knowledgeable as you are, I think you absorb materal very quickly and probably on different levels. ^^

Which do you prefer: black and white photography or color, and stills or motion?

Excluding all references to animation.

Montreal
03-04-2008, 10:43 PM
Ahh i love both.
If i had to choose i think i'd choose color.
and i like stills, but in action poses.
not actually moving, but giving the impression.

frank
03-04-2008, 11:17 PM
Yes, I uhnderstand. I'm grounded in photograhy, also. ^^

But don't you find B/W more challenging--especially becasue of lighting difficulties and achieving perspectives?

Montreal
03-05-2008, 12:58 AM
i wouldn't say that i find black and white to be more challenging...it's definitely a different type of image, you have to treat it differently than color. but what i love about color are the levels and depth, you can delve into almost any side of the spectrum you wish, make it vibrant or washed out, it's always a surprise.

frank
03-05-2008, 04:47 AM
I have to agree with all of that. I guess b/w has always retained a challenge and fascination for me because, just like with my art, my first learning experiences were with b/w. ^^

What do you do to relieve the stress in your life, not including any kind of artwork? Any kind! Please?

Montreal
03-05-2008, 05:05 AM
if i'm really frustrated i will take out a piece of paper and write **** very large, and then all sorts of insults relating to the issue...then i fold it up and either burn it or rip it apart. also, i sleep, scream, and call jericho.

frank
03-05-2008, 05:22 AM
Why did you take your LIS badge off your sig?

Montreal
03-05-2008, 05:27 AM
I ended up generally disliking it, which i tend to do with a lot of the things i make. i just found it easier to have a userbar with mugen on it.

frank
03-05-2008, 05:31 AM
Yeah. I just went and looked at it, and it doesn't seem to fit now.

Can you create a banner/badge from any image as long as it's .png?

Montreal
03-05-2008, 05:32 AM
technically, i can create one from any image whatsoever.
png's are so much easier because the background is already cut out, which takes out about 70% of the work.

frank
03-09-2008, 04:38 PM
if i'm really frustrated i will take out a piece of paper and write F*** very large, and then all sorts of insults relating to the issue...then i fold it up and either burn it or rip it apart. also, i sleep, scream, and call jericho.

Did you know that's a form of magick?

Do you feel better after doing any or all of those things?

Which ones?

I'll stop now. ^_~

Montreal
03-09-2008, 06:26 PM
i didn't know that.

i feel better after all of those things, but i think i feel the most better after writing the words.

Edited in: by me:

Have you skipped any grades?

Where did you receive your art training?

Do you have a school in mind for under-graduate studies?

Montreal
03-18-2008, 01:13 AM
i've never skipped any grades. the only subject i excel in is english and language arts, i'm very much behind on the science and math dept.

i have never had any type of training.

for college i plan on going to ITT tech for graphic design. i don't really have anything else planned.

Takai
04-06-2008, 07:43 AM
Do you have any preferred anime genres? (mecha, school, sports etc)

frank
04-06-2008, 11:59 AM
and I notice you have a new avvie/siggy combo. The avie looks like one Zelda used or Sera? Close--maybe just the texture and flow.

Are there some things you really hate to do? Like what? I mean really dislike (better word) but not including mundane things like trash, dishes etc. @_@

I think I just confused myself. LOL

Montreal
04-06-2008, 10:12 PM
Takai :
I really don't have a specific genre attraction...but for some reason, I've never really enjoyed the plot for Mecha anime. I know i should give some a chance, like gundam and all that...i jusst don't enjoy it. I tried to like Eureka 7, but i ended up not liking it at all. My tastes depend on the series more than the genre..

frank :
I really don't like to teach people how to do things. I get very frustrated. Also, I don't like to explain myself to others. As in, religion, beliefs, etc.

Takai

Would you buy a medicine seller (Mononoke/Ayakashi) action figure if there was one for sale? xD

frank
04-09-2008, 01:59 PM
Are there color combinations that you prefer over others and is there a style of art work that you like more than others?

which and why?

(without making you feel like you're explaining yourself. lol)

Montreal
04-11-2008, 01:26 AM
Takai: YES. i love mononoke dearly.

frank:
i like blue and yellow a whole lot..also black and white, pastel blue and green, pastel pink and yellow...and rainbow.

Takai
04-11-2008, 01:59 AM
There were rumors among Bakeneko/Mononoke fans that the medicine seller is yet another portrayal of the famous onmyôji Abe no Seimei; what's your opinion on that? Do you think this may be true, or do you think he is a completely unique individual with no relation to any historical figure?

Montreal
04-11-2008, 03:00 AM
I don't know much about japanese history, but i could say it is highly likely. many characters have been based on historical figures/pop culture figures...

Montreal

Why do you like Mugen so much? (without going into spoilers as I haven't seen SC lol)

Montreal
04-12-2008, 10:10 PM
Melee: hahaha. how come i'm so cool?
because of influential people in my life. also, the type of art i enjoy is graphic because everything i've done is self-taught..

Takai: Mugen...hmm. i wouldn't say he is my abo****e favorite, that place is held by Vash the stampede. but i like mugen because he's just a dirty guy, badass to the core, and has hardly any morals.

Takai
04-12-2008, 11:18 PM

Montreal
04-28-2008, 04:52 AM

by default, i must say The High Priestess, since that is the card of my birthday. here are the characteristics:

* Intuition ----- Nonaction ----- Mystery ----- Calmness ----- Silence

* Inner voice ----- Deep understanding ----- Discretion ----- Sensitivity

* Distance ----- Stability ----- Wisdom ----- Unconscious knowledge

* Patience ----- Looking inward ----- Contemplation ----- Subjective mind

GG:
if you mean midnight snack, it varies. usually i enjoy cereal at night.

And how do you associate that card with your birthday?

frank
05-05-2008, 05:10 PM
You seem to have gone into a kind of narrative free verse. At least as far as structure.

Do you like that better than "traditionzl" free verse?

Montreal
05-05-2008, 09:11 PM
Mel: of course i like you!

GG: my chinese zodiac is the monkey, and i've never really looked into it.

frank: i've sort of adopted the narrative prose as my 'style'. i enjoy it very much. i can express myself much easier.

frank
05-06-2008, 05:55 PM
Many people can in narrative prose style. Like Whitman and Sandberg, etc.

do you deliberately set out with a goal in mind or do you let your writing take you as it will? ^^

Montreal
05-09-2008, 02:58 AM
usually, a line or a phrase will be in my head when i begin, but i usually have to feel like writing to write something i deem worthy. it all sort of flows out at once, i barely edit anything after i get into it.

frank
05-10-2008, 01:31 AM
Why can't you be older?

I mean, physically--sort of. Like in years?

I mean, do you even have a clue of what I don't know what I'm talking about....? :?

Montreal
05-10-2008, 05:29 AM

i ask myself that question every day.
why can't i be older? the old soul is cursed to live within this young body.

The Guiltiest Gear

Why are you using that odd avatar lol

and is it FLCL,looks FLCLish

Montreal
05-16-2008, 04:13 AM
it's haruko from the FLCL ending. i always loved that part, so i found an icon of it and am using it now.

frank
05-16-2008, 08:04 PM
There's no problem with a young body, or an old soul--just seems like some inequities are born of the Devil and even God, Himself, can't make them right.

it's about Kino who travels the world (on a talking motorbike). and basically every episode is a visit to a different place. and this is not the ordinary world; Kino visits all kinds of bizarre countries with strange traditions and stuff. it's only 13 episodes and for some reason i thought you'd like it~ it's very interesting~ ^^

Do you like this kind of 'traveling' genre? I always seem to be attracted to a plot where a main character travels places and stuff o.o

frank
05-21-2008, 04:40 PM

Takai
05-31-2008, 03:45 AM
are you going to go into graphic design in college?

Montreal
05-31-2008, 06:01 PM
this is my general goal. but i just got a very professional camera, so maybe i'll go into photography. but graphic design will bring food to the table, so i'll probably go with that.

Takai
05-31-2008, 06:12 PM
Do you know that graphic design is actually more about drawing and making designs with your own illustrations? o_O
at least it is in my school. i had a completely different idea on it. so i switched because i want to do actual design, not drawings (not professionally at least). Just an advice - ask in detail what graphic design involves at whatever school you will go to; i had to retake a semester because of my lack of knowledge ^^;;

Montreal
05-31-2008, 07:20 PM
graphic design can mean a wide variety of subjects, which is why i like it so much. i plan on going into graphic design for advertisement...

by that i mean designing ads for companies, brochures, book covers, dvd covers, movie posters...etc

my dream is to design movie posters and book covers.

Takai
05-31-2008, 08:01 PM
yeah that's what i like too. but at my school all the designs have to be compiled of our own drawings and stuff; so i'd have to take a lot of actual drawing courses (like life drawing, drawing and perspective etc), and that kind of discouraged me since i don't want to draw professionally. and we actually have a separate major for advertising. but yeah, i think the majors are categorized differently in different colleges.

for how long have you worked with photoshop and other image editing software?

Montreal
05-31-2008, 08:04 PM
i've been teaching myself how to use photoshop since i was about 11 years old.

it was available to me because my mom used to work for a newspaper and journalism thing, so i just basically messed with it until i found out i could actually make things. it was actually forums that have gotten me into it and helped me grow in it, the first thing i ever designed was a signature.
and signatures and avatars are still the main things i design, though now i do much more for schools.

Takai
05-31-2008, 08:06 PM
it was about the same with me, forums and signatures and stuff. though i was 14-ish when i first used any editing software.

what other software do you use?

Montreal
05-31-2008, 09:21 PM
i am mainly photoshop...though i can easily understand any basic editing program because of the higher level of difficulty photoshop can ask for. i've used paint shop pro before, but i've stuck with photoshop 5.0, cs, cs2, and cs3 for the past 5 years.

Montreal
06-14-2008, 04:27 PM
frank - yes, i definitely think you are naughty.

takai - the story absolutely touched my heart. simple beauty. not even the love...the realism in it. the way that they showed that it WAS an issue. it was a problem, to them. it hurt them. seeing that in some of the manga panels made me cry.

frank
06-14-2008, 09:51 PM
Heh, heh, heh  Well, who woulda thought....? No need to take a poll, then. Verdict seems to be in.

i think it would be a mixture of naughty and nice.

Takai

Have you read/seen 'I My Me! Strawberry Eggs' by any chance? It has quite an interesting romantic approach too.

Montreal
06-14-2008, 11:39 PM
i have heard of it, seen pictures, but never watched. what is it about?

and yes, i find that painful love beautiful. i guess that's why i like yaoi sometimes...or incest, or shota, because it is real. it can show that people can love, but it's not always sugar sweet and easy. there are real problems.

Takai
06-14-2008, 11:45 PM
Exactly! We can't decide who to love after all, love just happens. Even if it's against some morals, it really isn't something people can control =/

Strawberry Eggs is about a guy Hibiki who had to dress as a female in order to get a job as a teacher (he desperately needed a job). And he falls in love with the girl in his class, but tries to keep it a secret. The girl likes him too, except she doesn't know Hibiki is a man. It's pretty complicated. I thought it was a very touching story. It's only 13 episodes, maybe you will like it.

Have you read/seen any good shota? o.o The only one i really heard of was Boku no Pico, and hentai is one thing i definitely stay away from ^^;

Montreal
06-14-2008, 11:59 PM
i meant shotacon, which is what i would consider loveless to be....and that's one of my favorites because there are deep rifts and issues in that story between ritsuka and soubi. and i was into akuroku from kingdom hearts because roxas was about 15 and axel was in his early or middle twenties, i think.

Takai
06-15-2008, 12:08 AM
Hm, I never really considered Loveless to be shota ^^;
Isn't shotacon usually more of a sexual relationship between an underage and an adult?
I didn't think there was anything really -adult- in Loveless. And Soubi did say that he wouldn't get excited for a child. Maybe he is in denial >.>
I think Loveless is probably one of the most complicated romance stories ever. And definitely one of my most favorites, if not -the- most favorite.

Montreal

from...personal experience, and study and looking into relationships like that...
older men can have restraint towards younger ones, but they have needs and i think that's something that soubi had major issues with. to take someones innocence that early, when that is what YOU want and maybe what they ask for, but not what they'll want in the long run? i think he struggled with his head and heart.

Takai
06-15-2008, 05:14 AM
I see what you mean. You're right I think. *sigh* I love Soubi for all that, I really do. To be able to shut off his own will completely because of love.. his love towards Ritsuka is just so admirable.

What are some of your favorite scenes in Loveless? I've read volumes 1-7.

Montreal
06-15-2008, 05:29 AM
ahh. i went searching through the places where i used to read it online, and they've taken it off because it got licensed i suppose. but one of the scenes that stands out in my head was when ritsuka went to the amusement park without soubi but spent the entire time looking for him or thinking about him...it showed, to me, that even though he acts like he hates the love and attention soubi gives, he craves it in an almost childish way.

Why do you like Squall?

Montreal
07-17-2008, 08:44 PM
i almost like him because he's a very unsung hero. he didn't ask to have to save everyone, but he does it silently. he has an interesting look, past, and voice. it's not the 'emo' factor, for me...i just think he's a well developed character.

i USED to have a mousepad. it was chococat, extremely cute, but uncomfortable. eventually the laminated covering of it started to rip, so i just got rid of it all together.

Montreal

i think i've failed a midterm, but never a class. having two teachers as parents doesn't allow much room for failure.

Takai
09-10-2008, 07:46 PM
are your parents very strict about school then?

Montreal
09-11-2008, 12:32 PM
definitely not strict, i wouldn't even say they kept me on a long leash. in real life, i'm pretty boundless. but when it comes to getting a C or lower, they take it upon themselves to cut me off from the world until my grades come up.

Takai
09-11-2008, 02:42 PM

what manga are you currently reading, if any?

Montreal

i read all of the chapters of X about a month ago, and i'm collecting a Bleach and Yotsuba as i have the money to buy them. Yotsuba is on hiatus in america though, but it is my top priority.

Takai
09-12-2008, 09:51 PM
is Yotsuba from the mangaka of Azumanga or am i confusing titles?

yeah, it is. did you know his first work was hentai? hehehe.

Takai
09-13-2008, 06:45 AM
o___o that is very unexpected XD to go from hentai to something like Azumanga XD (but then again... the epic space opera Terra e is from the mangaka whose every other work is yaoi XDDD)

have you read/watched Earthian? or any other works by Kouga Yun, except Loveless?

what do you like about Ichigo?

Montreal
09-20-2008, 09:30 PM
i really don't give ichigo much love...but i think his growth as a person is phenomenal for someone that's 15/16. he's rather funny, too. (and a redhead.) plus he has a great sense of style...though i guess that's kubo tite's choice, not his. hehe

Would you choose to have the ability to read people's minds, if it meant there was a chance for other people to have the ability as well?

Montreal
09-27-2008, 02:55 AM
ive thought about it, and decided that there would be no way i could survive reading other people's minds in the way everyone imagines it...it would make my brain explode, plus people think all types of different ways so it'd be hard to understand what they were thinking about. i mostly think in images and i see text and hear a narration of things sometimes...it's hard to explain. i'd rather no one read my mind.
