Ok...I'm going to try to write a story and stick with it. Here's the prologue. And please comment. ^^

Prologue.

The sky was black with poisoned clouds. Smoke filled the air, choking the life out of anything airborne. Sirens wailed and the fear of the people was tangible. Even the moon hid, not wanting to gaze down at the scene below. Orange flames crackled with delight as they destroyed everything. Buildings burned, streets melted, hoarse voices shouted commands. The city was an angry, pained beast.

Within the city, police officers scouted the streets in groups. A few gunshots could be heard along a particular road.

"There they are!"

"Cut them off at the next intersection."

The group split up and went in different directions to completely block the intersection. A tall, dark-haired officer was leading the others. He turned to the younger officer beside him.

"Are the snipers ready?"

"Yes, sir."

The officer nodded, grim determination on his face. His gray eyes looked cloudy as he focused on his own thoughts. All this destruction, this pandemonium. All because of them. Anger leaped into his eyes as he returned to reality.

"Tell them to be ready to fire at my command," he ordered the young police officer.

**********************************************

Two figures kept to the shadows as they crept down the narrow streets. Their breathing was ragged, and one held a hand firmly to its neck. Their arms were covered with bruises, their legs with numerous small cuts. They stopped near the entrance to an alley, looking across the street.

"Are they there too?" one whispered.

The other one replied with a silent nod. The silent one motioned toward the alley and began walking into it. The other followed. The alley was especially dark and humid from the flames engulfing the buildings around it. Ashes spiraled into their hair as it flew on the slight breeze. They were soon crawling to avoid choking on the smoke.

One figure, its hand still at its neck, cursed and began going back the way it came. At first, the other figure was confused, but the unasked question was answered when police whistles screeched close to their hiding spot. They slowly crept back the way they came, extremely tense. Their anguish only grew when they heard shouts behind them.

"There they are!"

"Hurry! Get them!"

Both figures cursed, got up, and sprinted out of the alley. They quickly crossed the street and turned a sharp corner, pushing themselves harder as the police drew near. When they reached the end of the street, they gasped.

**********************************************

The officer almost smiled when he heard the stomping feet heading his direction. He could hear the snipers as they lifted their guns. He watched carefully as the two figures ran into the middle of the intersection. Thin dots appeared at their hearts and foreheads.

"Fire!" the officer bellowed.

All at once, the snipers pulled their triggers. The bullets whistled through the air, quickly flying toward their targets. The figures barely got away. They headed toward the weakest section, punching and kicking the officers, leaving mounds of unconscious bodies. The snipers tried to get a lock on their targets, but the figures would move, or an officer would get in the way. The leading officer was not pleased.

The figures managed to break through the small force, making their way toward the harbor. The water gently churned, despite the chaos it surrounded. The figures ran noisily down the boardwalk, the boots of the police thudding behind them. The dark-haired officer ordered them to stop.

"They're trapped," he simply stated.

He reached down to his belt, and removed three grade-A grenades. The other officers looked at him in shock. Grade-A grenades were the most powerful, and dangerous, grenades. After removing the pin, only a few seconds remained before it exploded. If their leader wasn't careful, he would kill them all.

"Back up," their leader commanded.

They were only too happy to obey. The officers quickly retreated close to the city. The dark-haired officer stared at the figures as they turned around. His eyes were stormy. He didn't say a word as he pulled out the pins and hurled the grenades at the figures.

The harbor light up with bloody light as the grenades exploded. The ships within burst into flames on the water, feeding off the oil. The dark-haired officer frowned as he watched the fire from the city limits. He almost didn't make it. His frown turned into a grim smile when he spotted a few, bloody feathers burning among the wreckage.

**********************************************

The two figures panted heavily on the deck of a far away ship. Scarlet liquid raced down their bodies, pooling around their feet. They fell to their knees, and looked across the water. The city was like the sun among the darkness of the night. The smell of burning oil mixed unpleasantly with the scent of sea-salt. The burning city was reflected in their eyes as they watched, silent except for their breathing, the boat calmly sailing farther and farther away.
