In a distant future, humanity once again is facing the threat of the "Shadow Angels". Mystical creatures who returned after 12.000 years of absence. They attack human cities and kidnap their inhabitants in order to drain their "prana" (vital energy). To fight against them, youngsters with special powers from arround the world were gathered and trained to pilot the "vector machines", three ancient ships that together form mankind's ultimate weapon, "Aquarion". The story revolves mainly arround Apollo, a teenager rumored as the reencarnation of Apolonius, a fallen angel who fought against his own kind to protect mankind. Few believe it could be true, but the fact is that dispite his untamed and reckless nature, he proved to be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Shadow Angels.

I really loved this anime,it was an interesting twist having angels use futuristic mechs and the mechs were so fluid and well animated at times they moved like ninjas. The series starts with us right in the middle of orphans running from enforcement robots then n the city’s barrier is penetrated by an angel attack and it goes from there.

The series uses cgi for all the mechs and its seems twice as good as vandread at flowing with the 2d art around it,also it reminds me of vandread with the 3 ships transforming into 1 of 3 giant robots. Its kinda like eva or rahxephon in that the characters all live in a city/fortress and have 1 monster battles per episode but the key difference is that while they defeat the monsters they are defeated in a sense and I like how it really feels like they are fighting against higher dimensional beings.

If there was anything I didn’t like bout the series itd be the fact the supreme commander was always being deep and philophisacl in battles…its not a bad thing its just not once did he ever give an actual order in the anime. Also didn’t like how only 4 of the angels were important enough for character development, the rest were just there for the conferences they had every few episodes, but I did like how only 2 of the angels fit what comes to mind when 1 thinks of the word angel.

As to how the battles go, normally they follow the same sterotype:every1 gets owned,Fudo gets Philophisocal and every invents a new special attack.most have a cheesy name like angel sword of sorrow, ultimate jealousy sword ect., which in my opinion is a fresh idea they may be cheesily named but they are usually amazing attacks.

At 1st I thought the series was going to either be open ended or have a crappy 1 because here we were at ep 18 nothings explained, but everything was explained right down to why humanity got magic powers in an unrushed fashion despite the small amount of episodes left to the conclusion.

It’s a bit of a comedy though its quite serious at the sametime

Main character was quite interesting, typical reckless protagonist with the twist of being like a rabid animal with no manners, common sense, and always had a habit of running on all fours and smelling everything.
