Several months after Nanoha first became a Magical Girl, she still is unable to personally meet with her new close friend, Fate Testarossa, who is being tried in the Space / Time Administration Bureau for her association in the Lost Logia case. They still communicate through video-mail and hope to see each other in-person once again. Their reunion is not a happy one, unfortunately, as several people who call themselves "Velka-Type Knights" battle Nanoha above the city. Their objective is to fill the pages of the Book of Darkness by stealing the magical power of anyone they can find. Nanoha and Fate must once again team up to stop their plans and save the world.

This series takes place 6 months after the original in the closing days of Fate’s trial,where Fate has apparently been close combat training with Chrono to pass the time and Nanoha training on her own(she’s now capable of using some of her powers without transforming). This series in my opinion is the true gem of the series,this time a wheelchair bound girl gets recognized as the new master of the book of darkness and therefore becomes protected by its 4 guardians whom she baffles with not caring about ultimate power. These villains give Nanoha and Fate a run for their money as they are mages who specialize in medium and long range combat the knights are close range specialists(their weapons including the book of darkness also talk in german as opposed to intelligent devices whom speak English).this series is mostly about the 4 knights and their love for their master charging up the book of darkness so they can save their master’s life and live a peaceful life, although the Space-Time Administration Bureau sees them as emotionless monsters. This series introduces the catridge system which is basiclly when a weapon uses a bullet with magic energy to increase its power output,its also about the relationship between Admiral Lindy and Fate as she plans to adopt Fate.
