The year is 2356 A.D. - 189 years after a distant supernova caused a global catastrophe that wiped out 99% of the world population. To keep track on all space activities, mankind has built colossal space stations called "foundations" all over the Solar System. After passing the Space Academy entrance exams, Shima Katase embarks to the Earth-based foundation Stellvia to fulfill her dream of seeing the galaxy and to prevent another interstellar catastrophe from destroying Earth.
thats it in a nutshell, cept the fact space has been turned from black to green due to the supernova, and the fact a 2nd more destructive wave is on its way and will hit in 72 days(surprisingly i hear the great mission occurs in volume 3)in which alll foundations have a plan to shield the earth from wave
iv heard romance starts popping up in volume 4(im only up to 2),but this series is interesting to say the least.think of it as each Foundation is a high school that teaches programing and piloting biancas(highspeed 1 person spacecraft)
unlike other anime Shima is a freakin genius, she's so smart in fact lets just say in a game thats like soccer in space(with mechs)she kept the ball and scored each time by instantly calculating the opponents likely responses to her moves,as well as the speed and tragetories of every time she hits the ball.she even simultaniously reprogrammed the navigation controls, and dont get me started on the hacking she did in episode 2 O_O
anyway the anime starts with her leaving earth to go to Stellvia 1 of the main 5 foundations assuming there is more then 5,and how she has a hard time in class till she get occasional advice from Kouta(something about depending too much on data).volume 2 showed her going from inscure to confident despite her earlier mistake, and going head to head with the best pilot of stellvia,i can see that Ayaka is slowly starting to hate Shima from her illegal method of defeating Shima via a head on collision,i just hope it doesnt go to the level of Tomoe in my otome.
its pretty obvious who hima will fall in love with tough since she and Kouta are always talking alone in the dark >.>
i rate this anime as comedy/romance and i guess action because i hear aliens attak in later episodes O_O
ps the dub is quite good ^^
