The so-called "one hour specials" in anime are actually only 45 minutes long. If you subtract opening, repeat, ending, preview, and possibly pointless omake at the end, the episode itself would only be roughly 30 minutes, which is only a few minutes longer than the "regular" episode. But they can get away with skipping a week by feeding a "one hour special" to the audience a week later than planned. Hmph.

-walks away-
lmao, in keeping with the theme...
Former High and Mighty Color singer Makii is hot  *cough*
...yeah
:ninja: Moving on... I was on my home today and came across some kids selling candy for some school benefit or something, and as usual I oblige them--bought some M&M's--and as I round the corner I'm stopped by another group of kids from the same school selling candy. They stop and ask if I'd like to buy some, and I explain that I just bought like 3 packs of M&M's from their peers, but as I said that one of them puts this really melancholic face saying "It'd really help out if you could buy one more from us, we've been walking all day and no one's bought from us yet". So again, I shell out about $3--bought some snickers. Later that day I go to my local Pizzeria and I see both group of kids at a corner table counting the money, and the same kid with that convincing melancholic expression is thumbing through bills like some casino cashier and I can overhear them discussing strategy and one of them say "tomorrow we'll hit up Stuyvesant Street". lol, I felt so disillusioned. Damn, youth today are so business savvy.

oo
Almost all of the South Slavs can be traced to ethnic Slavs who mixed with the local European population of the Balkans (Illyrians, Dacians/Thracians, Greeks, Romans, Celts); with some Slavs of modern-day Bulgaria mixing with later invaders from the East, the Bulgars. They were particularly influenced by the Byzantine Empire and the Orthodox Church, although Catholicism and Latin influences were more pertinent in Dalmatia. The West Slavs and the Slovenes do not share either of these backgrounds, as they expanded to the West and integrated into the cultural sphere of Western (Roman Catholic) Christianity around this time also mixing with nearby Germanic tribes.

i thought Polish was a germanic language, not slavic.. o.o' oh well.
frank
08-21-2010, 01:36 AM
All of these languages have Indo-European roots or influences. That entire area was in a constant state of flux (even as it is today) with cultures over-lapping and, as one group or another would become dominant, their root language also became dominant, but inevitably abosorbed some of the culture--including language--as part of their own.
I think linguistic scholars, especially, have different attitudes and ideas about the formation of any language group and its ability to be separated into a quantitative entity without having to consider all of the forces acting upon that language.
There are very few "pure" languages in the world, today. The others are really a mixture and blending of each other. Some commanalities may exist between groups as well as sufficient differences to be classified as "this" or "that," But, in the final, they all owe their existence to each other.

Every man must die, but few may choose the manner of their passing, and fewer still have the honor to die with their spears in their hands and their comrades at their sides. Farmers and merchants die forgotten, but the names of heros shall live forever. Let us then go forth, and do battle with the enemy. And if the gods will it, we shall be victorious, and if not, then for a thousand years men will sing of our deeds.

Cats are Aliens that Read Minds
Thoughts get reported to underground badger civilization
Inebriated Press \ Tabloid Division
October 31, 2007
Scientists have discovered that cats are an alien species that are reading our minds and telepathically transferring their findings to a civilization of badgers living deep underground. This shocking revelation has overturned years of Egyptian belief that cats are gods and set Islamofascists on their collective ears. But not everyone is willing to accept the scientific pronouncement.
“My cat doesn’t know **** and other than wrecking my drapes and pissing in my shoes she hasn’t done a thing but lay around the house,” said cynic and hairdresser Donald Trump. “If that cat could read my mind it would have moved out by now.”
But the scientists made it clear that the cats are onto us. “Look into their eyes and you’ll know it,” said Indy Glanwood, a mental giant with degrees coming out of his ass. “They’ve been absorbing our knowledge and passing it on to the badgers. Those badgers are going to come for us one day and take over our culture and civilization. The damn badgers are coming man. I know it. I can feel it. Can you feel it? It’s just over there a little to the left.”
According to the scientists the badgers are already spreading infectious disease to cows in Great Britain and are eyeing the Brit’s to see how they react. And by using parasites that can only survive in desert regions they’ve caused people in the Middle East to kill each other indiscriminately for generations.
“The people in the Middle East all think they hate each other because of their different cultures and faiths,” said Ahshit Kilem a cleric and author of the popular book “Kids Guide to Bomb Making”. “The reality is it’s these damned bitey things that are driving us crazy. Dogonit, I feel like shooting somebody right now!”
In related news, J Lo says she likes her cat and often thinks silly thoughts to confuse the badgers. So far it’s working because the badgers haven’t attacked.

I have a coffee mug. A large one. Besides my cup with all my dragons, except Shoden. For some reason, it's easier just to keep refilling the mug, than pouring out what's there and starting off all fresh again. Well, sometimes the coffee, some of it, will be like 3 days old. It never tastes bad, just like coffee. But I'm noticing that inside the lid of the mug, which doesn't fit very tightly, by the way, some sort of mold growth develops. In just, like overnight, literally. Then I have to dump the whole thing and clean the whole thing with bleach. Straight. Then rinse it very well before putting fresh coffee. That's pretty much the life of my coffee mug. Kind of boring, really. But I'm wondering how aggressive that mold really behaves. Like can it start growing in my brain? Kind of hard to get bleach up there. Might not be safe, either. Ya think?

If you had a house on a mountain in Tibet you might put a swing set in the back yard so the kids have a place to play, but then one day they would come in crying because there are Yetis on the swings and they won't get off. Then you would have to go out and tell the Yetis to get off the swings, because it isn't their swing set, and anyway they're kinda big to be playing on swings in the first place.

but do kitties like Greece? which reminds me of a movie I saw with Audrey Hepburn and another one: "Zorba, The Greek." Classic beach scene.

I kind of figured you had an anime in mind. XD I don't think Audrey was in Zorba. I had Anthony Quinn in mind. I saw Charade, but don't remember it. Also fail. >< Especially since it was a very classic movie.

That awkward moment when somebody on YouTube asks you to explain why Johan isn't the real Monster. Also that person is only on episode 25. It's not even something that can really be explained in plain words, you have to watch and interpret it on your own... so much thought put into that one title word, I wish people paid attention.
