Shakugan No Shana - My Review:
I recently got into this anime due to such high recomendations and made a review...
Title (romanji): Shakugan No Shana
Title (Kanji): 灼眼のシャナ
Type: TV series
Total episodes: Unknown
Year: 2005
Ok so I've watched the first nine episodes and the way I would describe it would involve the words 'F-ing' and 'AMAZING' in the same sentence. Yes Shakugan No Shana really did appeal to me and now has probally pushed Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien of the top spot of my fav animes which is a task on it's own!
MAY CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS
Plot Synopsis Shakugan No Shana opens with an episode and could seem like a prologue, with the main character, Sakai Yuji telling a story as to how the changes in his existance changed. He was assaulted by a monster called 'Kuze no Togara' which is a monster from another parallel world. These monsters feed of the lifeforce of living humans by creating a kind of magical seal on the ground called a Fuzetsu, which makes everything inside of it out of sync from the 'existing world' like a zone where no one outside of it realises of it's existance and what happens inside of it. Though the effects could leak outside but havn't so far, all damages is repaired before so. Back to what I was saying, as Yuji was being attacked by this Togara a girl with red hair and red eyes came to his rescue. This girl is called a Flame Haze, which is a hunter of the Togara in order to keep the balance of the worlds since the Togara disrupt it with their feeding. To maintain the balance of the lost lifeforce the Flame Haze's replace the lost lives with 'Torches' which is nother more than a flame, which takes on the existance of the lost life for a short period of time till it burns out, it's merely something that reduces the damage, a shock absorber if you will. Yuji finds out that he had already died sometime in the past and that he himself is already a Torch. Normally people in the Fuzetsu aren't aware of what's going on but Yuji myteriously does (without giving it away). The second episode goes and explains into a little more detail about the general plot line.
Visuals 10/10 Animation, character/background art are all of high quality and excellet, no let down there. The special effects are also quite something to see. I am very impressed.
Story 10/10 So far I am in love with the story, nothing too overly used here, the main idea is covered in the first two episodes but may be confusing for some, none the less excellent story.
Characters 9/10 Again, a high rating, all the characters are indeed great in there own way, though slightly cliche and fall into my usual stereo typing catagorys. Though even saying that they still are portrayed very well which make's them more unique.
Sounds 9/10 Very nice intro and closing tracks, well I know I certainly loved them, voices went well with the character profiles, certainly in the lead two. Sound effects were sounded good also.
Overall 10/10 An excellent anime which I would highly recommend to anyone. Has a good storyline with great characters, lots of action and geart visuals with and opening and ending track to match.
Might take some screen caps later or something.
